Nostra-Josh-Mus Predicts 2017’s Marketing Trends
by Josh Amidon
This is always my favorite blog post to write every year, this is where I get to Windex my crystal ball, take my Carnac headdress out of storage and predict marketing trends in the upcoming year! I realize that this is a blog post and you can’t see me in all my Whoopi Goldberg from Ghost glory, but you’ll just have to trust me.
This post offers an overview of what to expect for 2017 and beyond. You'll also find some tips on how to use these trends for your business.
Live streaming will grow even more in popularity. By now you must know many social media companies have enabled live streaming into their platforms. If you’re annoyed with how everyone is live-streaming the most mundane things, hang on tight because it’s about to get even worse. Soon, even your grandma will be live streaming her morning coffee. Nostra-Josh-Mus sees a 2017 filled with real estate agents live streaming open houses or pizza parlors live streaming their pizza making process.
More email blasts. Almost every business has an email blast in their marketing system – if you don’t, what are you waiting for? Get one! Companies like eblasts because “open rates” are actually going up and customers like them because they’re a passive way to be marketed to. Nostra-Josh-Mus knows everyone has been discussing the death of the email blasts, but it seems they were all premature with their obituaries.
Storytelling will become a huge part of a successful marketing strategy. Suit and tie professionalism is long gone and was taken over by content marketing – but it’s not enough anymore, you have to evolve your strategy and tell your story. Nostra-Josh-Mus sees a 2017 filled with customers wanting to connect to a story. Heck, even the biggest fast food player in the world (McDonalds) just came out with their own movie – The Founder follows Ray Kroc as he creates the biggest franchise company in the world.
The rise of native advertising. Native advertising is material in an online publication which resembles editorial content but is paid for by an advertiser. Pop-up ads don’t work anymore – so advertisers have began to pay online publications to write favorable articles about their products/services. Notra-Josh-Mus says don’t be afraid to reach out to a publication and ask them about native advertising – it might be your best form of marketing in 2017.
That’s it folks, time to pack up my crystal ball and swamy hat until next year. If you happen to come across me in real life, don’t be afraid to ask me to do my Whoopi Goldberg impression from Ghost – “Molly, you in danger girl.”
